It is a lot more important that you interpret the sign correctly and that you react to what it is telling you. “It is also as much about being able to go slow; most hunters blow it at the end. You need to be able to read the sign and know what that buck is going to do. Sooner or later that buck is going to stop, he is likely worn out from rutting and chasing does and he wants a nap.

This is especially true during the hunting season when weather and feed are in a constant state of flux and hunting pressure comes into play. The empty land will often contain tracks or other deer sign, made by deer that were passing through or perhaps even living there for a while before moving on to a different location. Hunters who are fooled into hunting here are in for a disappointment. You must be able to read the sign and determine if the deer are still hanging around, have moved on, or were just passing though.
